The Burlington-Bristol Bridge is a movable bridge that connects the
historic town of Burlington, New Jersey to Bristol, Pennsylvania. It
was constructed between 1930 and 1931, and is currently owned and operated
by the Burlington County Bridge Commission. It is interesting for
its mixture of through and deck trusses as well as having certain stringer
(beam) spans (as pictured below). It has a vertical lift span that
uses concrete counterweights, one of which is also pictured here.
When raised, the vertical clearance is 138 feet. The central lift
span is 540 feet long, and the two side spans are 200 feet long
each. This bridge is featured in my book The Bridges of New
Jersey, available on amazon.com and
barnesandnoble.com.
The city of Burlington is one of New Jersey's
colonial towns, featured elsewhere on this
site.
