The LaSalle Street Bridge in Chicago is one of many movable bridges
spanning the Chicago River that surrounds the Loop area of the city.
It has a distinctive sloping look, as if forming a valley between two
hills. Built in 1928 of steel, it is a trunnion bascule
bridge. It is in essence a single leaf drawbridge. The bridge
is raised by means of a counterweight at one end. Seen here are
views of the bridge with the Merchandise Mart (to the left) and the Reid,
Murdoch and Co. Building (just below). Also pictured are details of
the tower and the rivets, the latter forming an abstract pattern.
