The 1927 Nissen Building in Winston-Salem held sway as North Carolina's tallest building from 1927 through 1929 and originally had a miniature golf course in its basement.  It was built by William Nissen, owner of Nissen Wagon Works, a company dating back to 1787.  Its main material is buff brick set in Flemish bond, with ornamentation comprised of limestone, granite and marble.
