The CSX Railroad Bridge in Tampa, Florida, is adjacent to the Cass Street
Bridge and was built in 1915. The City of Tampa website
features a description of the city's historic bridges across the
Hillsborough River, and notes of this one that it was built to provide
access to Port Tampa. This should be compared with comparable
bascule bridges, such as the one in Mystic, Connecticut, featured on this
site. This is a rolling lift bascule bridge, with the
counterweight rotating on the visible track, as opposed to being raised or
lowered by rotating around an axis. The bridgetender's cabin is also
featured.
