San Francisco
San Francisco has several examples of
flatiron construction. The Columbus Tower, also known as the
Sentinel Building, was begun before the 1906 earthquake and finished in
1907. It stands at 916 Columbus Avenue. It was designed by
Salfield & Kohlberg.

San Francisco
The Flood Building at 870-898 Market Street
was built in 1904 and survived the 1906 earthquake. Mystery writer
Dashiell Hammett, creator of Sam Spade, worked here, and ate nearby at
John's Grill on Ellis Street. It was built by James Leary Flood, son
of the silver magnate James Clair Flood, and remains a family-owned office
building.
