The Nicolas Avellaneda Bridge in the La Boca barrio of Buenos Aires
was named after a former president of Argentina. This bridge, built
1939-1940, replaced the still-standing transporter bridge nearby, just
visible in part in the lower left image. (The full original
transporter bridge, approved in 1908 and opened in 1914, is pictured on
the Archive page. The two bridges are
often called by the same name.) It spans the Riachuelo River between
La Boca and Avellaneda.
