The 27-floor apartment skyscraper at One Fifth Avenue in New York was built between 1927 and 1929, and designed by architect Harvey Wiley Corbett.  Compare the gargoyle with those on the Chrysler Building.  The wedding cake structure was necessitated by early set-back requirements.  Corbett studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and also designed New York's Bush Terminal Tower in mid-town.
